Often I find myself wondering how on earth societies were set up and efficiently, to the best of their knowledge, worked without the technological advancements that have become social norms for us in modern society. Could you imagine a world where there as no internet or cell phone? Did you know that the internet has changed the way our entire society is constructed? Consequently, I've often found my courses circulating around the concept of what societies social construct was based around in the past in comparison to the present. The universal response I've gotten from speaking with adults ages 30 & up is that they never could have imagined a world where a computer system would become a vital necessity of their everyday life.
Recently, I read an article on Information for the World's Business Leaders entitled The Changing Face of Advertisement which outlined the changing face of society in the way that we receive information but more so concentrated on how businesses now reach out to consumers and effectively target all audiences that they'd like to reach. Growing up, I always lived for commercials on television and would always typically choose the things I told my parents I wanted through those advertisements that made their product appealing. But recently, I've found that in my own life, most of the things I see that I like come from internet advertisements and pop culture's influence on society. For example, think about the last time you've seen an actual Nike commercial on television. I'd imagine it has probably been a while and that's because within the past 10 years, Nike has taken 84% of its advertising expansion plan from television ads and shifted it to the internet. Now you'd think that a company that has changed their advertising strategy so drastically would be non-existent or irrelevant at this point, but quite the contrary has occurred. The worldwide web or internet as we call it has created a much larger access for consumers which has increased sales beyond belief. This is the main reason why the internet transition has proven to be so much more successful.
By shifting the way we view products or rather the easy access to products, producers have found a new way to reach consumers that makes it much easier to build a consistent relationship. Below I've posted videos that go more in depth about the way society has changed, but my question that I'd like to leave you all with is, What do you believe is the next step? What else can be done that can prove to be more revolutionary to society than the internet?
Internet ads are becoming, i think, a cheaper but still effective way to sell products. I can see a drastic shift from tv ads to internet ads in 5-10 years.
